How to Get a Facebook Marketplace Couch Delivered in San Diego

The couch is $250 and ten minutes away. The listing says "buyer must transport." You don't own a truck. That gap — between "sold" and "in your living room" — is where most Marketplace deals die.

Here's how to close it properly.

Step 1 — Ask the seller the right questions first

Before you commit, message the seller:

  • **Exact dimensions** — length, depth, height, and diagonal depth if it's a sofa.
  • **Does it come apart?** Removable legs, a sectional that splits, a detachable chaise.
  • **What floor is it on, and are there stairs or an elevator?**
  • **Is there truck parking or a loading zone?**
  • **Any damage, odors, pets or smoking?** Ask for photos of the underside and the back cushions.
  • **When can it be picked up, and who will be there?**

A seller who answers all of this quickly is usually a seller whose couch is as described.

Step 2 — Measure your side before you pay

The two measurements that actually decide whether the couch gets in:

1. The narrowest doorway on the path, including any interior doors. 2. The tightest stair or hallway turn.

Compare against the sofa's height and diagonal depth. If the diagonal depth is bigger than your narrowest door opening, the sofa has to come in on its side or lose its legs. Sectionals are usually easier because they split.

Step 3 — Think about payment and safety

  • Meet in a well-lit spot, or bring someone with you if you're inspecting in person.
  • Inspect before you pay in full where you can — a deposit to hold the item plus the balance at pickup is common and reasonable.
  • Be cautious with payment methods that offer no recourse, and with sellers who insist on payment before you've seen anything but a stock photo.
  • Get the item confirmed in writing in the chat thread: item, price, address, and pickup time.

Step 4 — Arrange the pickup

If you're using a delivery service like ours, you send three things: the listing (or photos), the pickup address, and the seller's contact. You do **not** have to be at the pickup — that's the point.

Our [Marketplace delivery service](/services/facebook-marketplace-delivery-san-diego) coordinates the meet with the seller, photographs the item at pickup so you can confirm it's the right piece and in the condition promised, wraps and straps it, and brings it into the room you choose rather than leaving it in the driveway.

Step 5 — Plan for the old couch

If the new couch is replacing an old one, handle both on the same visit. Adding [haul-away](/services/sofa-removal) to a delivery is far cheaper than paying for a separate removal trip later, and it means you're not sleeping next to two couches for a week.

What it costs

Pricing follows the item's weight tier plus $2/mile — under 100 lbs is $120, 100–200 lbs is $240, and 200–300 lbs is $340. Most Marketplace sofas fall in the middle tier. A second piece from the same seller is added at a discounted rate because the crew is already there.

Common mistakes

  • **Booking transport before confirming the seller is real.** Confirm the pickup window in writing first.
  • **Trusting listing photos for scale.** Ask for a tape measure in the photo.
  • **Forgetting the receiving end.** Someone needs to be at your address to let the crew in.
  • **Ignoring the smell test.** Fabric holds odors and pests. Ask directly.

Send us the listing and the pickup address and we'll quote the flat rate before you commit to the buy.
